Hummingbirds and Cigarettes is available through Bottlecap Press.
Our world is full of contrasts. Something as small as a hummingbird or butterfly can bring hope, beauty, and mystery, whereas something as small as a cigarette can destroy you and those around you. Love and hate, peace and chaos, nature and the artificial find their way into Hummingbirds and Cigarettes. Nature plays a big role overall in this collection of poetry. The natural world’s hidden messages and deciphering its meaning tend to be a common theme. At the same time, these poems address the insecurities and complexities of human relationships. Love and desire and the hope that these blissful parts of a bond will endure, which are often explained or shrouded in images of the natural world: the seasons, hummingbirds, butterflies, etc. ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~
Primitive Prayer is now available. For Primitive Prayer purchases please contact author. Nancy Byrne Iannucci’s Primitive Prayer begins with a promise: “I’m going to release Eve./ I’m going to take back Eden.” These poems explore sacred paradise full of loss—through reflections on ancestry, death and rebirth cycles in nature, the wintering of the Earth, and the whip of grief. In this collection, the divine promise and the wreckage of Eden are both made beautiful, a constant interplay of light and dark, prayer and witchcraft: “The cosmos and zinnias look up at me/half smiling with fractured backs.” This collection stares unflinchingly into crevices of cold darkness, but cycles back to the reminder of grace’s miraculous and gentle thaw, as “The late afternoon sun/runs its fingers through/a crowd of cattails." -Anne Champion, author of The Good Girl is Always a Ghost and She Saints and Holy Profanities ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ There is nothing primitive about Nancy Byrne Iannucci’s use of language. Her words never overly abstract but wrapped with just the right amount of knowledge and kindness that one feels one is going on a pilgrimage rather than just a journey. In her opening poem Taking Back Eden, where she literally strips away any platitudes and concerns and leaves one serene with solitude and a sense of adventure. When she says “I’m going to strip and breathe” you can readily feel the offending garments disappear. Her poems are full of self-knowledge as well as her understanding of humanity. I could drink her words every day. - Larry Jaffe, Beat Poet Laureate Florida ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~

What she captures is a portrait like a butterfly captured mid-flight– like love cradled in a warm room and tended to with tenderness until its release back into the wild. She carries us skillfully through many small moments: from moss-colored lights to fields of dying leaves and even to a rocking chair on a porch, always drawing us “back & forth, back & forth” between all the realms we are “hovering over & above,” showing us the interconnectedness and complicated beauty in the forest, in the street, in the living room. - James Croal Jackson, author of Our Past Leaves Cover design by, Domenic Rizzotti, @domenic.design ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~
Temptation of Wood is available for purchase through Amazon and Nixes Mate Review "Temptation of Wood exists in three worlds at once: a fabled yesteryear, an aching present, and a tarnished tomorrow, with poems that roam endless highways and shadowy cafés filled with mythic memories of Beat poet nights of neon and hope, of desperation and delicacy – a gripping journey through the dark night of our modern reality."— James H Duncan, editor of Hobo Camp Review "The poems in Temptation of Wood captivate early on with promises of both the playful and the tragic, then invite us to dance down roads between myth and history, human nature and the natural world, and back again. Accept the invitation - this is an impressive first collection. - Kate Garrett, managing editor of Three Drops From a Cauldron "Not unlike the skateboarders who inhabit Nancy's work, these poems take risks, get air and land back on a terra firma filled with longing, nostalgia and the overlooked wonders of the natural world - Sammo, independent musician |
